Voter Registration/Ballot by Email

You must be registered to vote in our local elections to be able to vote in the upcoming Operations and Maintenance Levy Renewal Election on February 9, 2010. If you are not registered, your voter registration form needs to be postmarked by January 11, 2010. If you are not currently registered in Washington, you also have the option of delivering it in person to the Pierce County Auditor’s Office on or before February 1, 2010. Active duty military and their dependents can register and vote as late as the day of the election by going directly to the Pierce County Auditor’s Office, 2501 South 35 th St, Suite C, Tacoma, WA, 98409. The phone number is 253-798-VOTE (8683).

Overseas military personnel and their dependents may request a ballot by email. To request an email ballot go to the Pierce County Auditor’s website at:

http://www.co.pierce.wa.us/pc/abtus/ourorg/aud/elections/uocava/voterguide.htm

All schools within the Steilacoom School District have voter registration forms available for those who need to register. Volunteers working on the Levy campaign can also assist you in registering. . A voter registration form must be completed if you did not previously register or if you had a change of name or address since your prior registration. If you do not have the opportunity to stop at one of the schools, you can contact Dick Muri at (253)581-5609 or Mike Winkler at (253) 912-9590.

Please note that registering to vote in the state of Washington does not affect an active duty military person’s Home of Record. When it is time to leave active service, your Home of Record will be the location where you entered active service. Since Washington State does not have a state income tax and has lowered its motor vehicle renewal fees, many active duty military personnel have registered to vote in Washington so that they can support the schools that their children attend.

An active duty military member and their spouse can have different official state residences for voting purposes. If an active duty military person decides not to register to vote in the state of Washington, the spouse can still choose to register to vote in our local and state elections.

We urge everyone to register to vote so that you can take part in the upcoming February 2010 School Levy election. Your vote does count! Recent elections show how important every vote is and that victory or defeat can be by very small margins. If you have questions, please feel free to call the Pierce Count Election Department directly at (253) 798-7430.
